Tattoos Of Cupid

Valentino Guerriero
label: Ampispazi Recordings
Ampispazi Recordings returns with Valentino Guerriero's futuristic latest EP, backed up with two outstanding remixes from label favourites Mess Me and Ercos Blanka.

Mik Santoro is ready to drop another strong release to add to Ampispazi's always fresh catalogue. This time it features the return to the label of Valentino Guerriero. With 'Tattoos Of Cupid' the Italian producer brings some of his new influences to Berlin. After spending some time over the Sea (Dublin to be precise) the producer has developed a particular disposition towards the UK Deep House sound, mixing soulful melodies with fat bass lines, pitched vocals with driving grooves. To push the release a step further, label head honcho Mik Santoro has asked two of the label's more productive artists, Mess Me and Ercos Blanka to supply remixes for the title track and the second cut, 'Shadows'

The EP opens with 'Tattoos Of Cupid': Valentino creates a very much SBTRKT atmosphere, with a truly emotional vocal to drive the cut. In the background two bass-lines are merged, one rough and raw which will truly connect with the dance-floor , the other one melodic, wobbly, for the heart. All fused with a 4/4 groove and Deep pads. The Mess Me version sounds like an early Disclosure or Bondax track. His infinite ability with the melodies switching and changing the nature of the original, making it a fantastic opening track.

'Shadows' is a way harder cut compared to the first one. An almost Italo Disco beat opens the tune, followed by melancholic synth melodies and a wobbly baseline underneath. Another perfectly Britishized record. Ercos Blanka, who knows the UK, having released on Kerry Chandler's Madtech, offers up his version of 'Shadow'. He perfectly recreates the nocturnal dark idea behind the title, mixing broken beats with sampled vocals and guitars, before it drops back into a superbly profound groove.

Make sure you get your hands on the new Ampispazi. Gets deeper and deeper.
