Rama Gu

Rama Gu is the music project of New York-based songwriter Anders Kapur. Kapur tells personal stories from his past with hypnotic plucked guitar and his urgent, direct tenor voice, leading the listener deep into his inner world.

In 2019 Kapur made his debut under the Rama Gu moniker with the Optimist EP. Recorded at Hotel2Tango in Montreal, the record's four tracks meditate on the topics of dreams, love, and despair, all conveyed through the lens of Kapur's inviting and engrossing storytelling. In July of 2020, Rama Gu's "Good Egg" was featured on NPR's Tiny Desk Contest Top Shelf, where KEXP's Kevin Cole ranked the track as a Top 11 favorite among thousands of entries and contest judge Gina Chavez declared she "can't wait to hear more of Rama Gu's music."

Titled The Garden, Rama Gu's first full-length studio album is an immersive trip through Anders' headspace, with his sharp lyrical wit complementing the record's gorgeous arrangements. Lush strings, fingerpicked guitars, and hushed backing vocals all coalesce into a work that is more than a sum of its parts, perhaps even what you'd deem aural comfort food. The Garden is set to release in late 2020.
