Philadelphia Folk Festival alum Reverend TJ McGlinchey releases a remix by West Philly emcee Noesis (Beats & Watson, Philadelphia Slick) of a song from McGlinchey’s 2019 album ‘Still In Love’ (GrindEthos Records, 2019). ‘The Currency of Dreamers’ was originally written by Joe D’Amico (of Mason Porter). It first appeared on D’Amico’s 2009 solo album ‘Something In The Silence’. McGlinchey had adopted the tune as a staple of his live sets. Ten years later, he covered the track on his album, employing a mini-orchestra of local folk musicians. Utilizing the individual instrumental parts from this recording as sampling material, Noesis chops and crafts the beat for the collaborative remix, laying the foundation for his own story echoing D’Amico’s original. The result is an introspective, existential, and deeply funky track whose existence illustrates the variation and re-inventiveness both hip hop and folk music embody.
