Professional Bio – Vanessa Marie Carter
Updated Fall 2019

Born in B.C. and raised in Oakville, ON, Vanessa got her start in musical theatre, however it was singing on stage in front of large crowds that she really loved. Vanessa’s musical influences and her lifelong love of country music come in part from family; her uncles and cousins are established Canadian musicians.

Upon graduation from Wilfred Laurier University (2011), Vanessa signed a recording contract with a Canadian indie label, where she was the female half of a successful duo called ‘Autumn Hill’. She has opened for many large country acts – examples include Kira Isabella, George Canyon, Brett Kissel, The Band Perry at Music in the Fields in 2015, Chase Rice at Boots and Hearts in 2016. Vanessa also finished her first 5 song EP in the summer of 2015, which is available on streaming services/itunes etc.

In August of 2016, and from a field of over 270 applicants, Vanessa won the coveted Sirius XM Emerging Artist Showcase Competition at the prestigious Canadian Boots and Hearts Festival, initially winning the 6 week fan voting portion of the contest (with over 44,000 fan votes) and then winning the live singing competition at the festival, besting 7 other artists. Vanessa received a prize package from Boots and Hearts/Republic Live worth in excess of $50,000, culminating in the signing of a recording contract with Universal Music Canada. In August of 2017, Vanessa opened the entire Boots and Hearts festival, playing in front of 10’s of thousands. Vanessa recorded her first single – Bless My Heart - in September of 2017, which was released to Canadian country radio in 2018. Vanessa is now an independent country artist living in Nashville, TN. She released a 3 song Christmas record in November of 2018. She is releasing her next single in the fall of 2019 and then two more are planned for release in 2020.
